Faktor yang Mempengaruhi Peralihan Usaha Tani Padi ke Usaha Tani Jeruk Manis

This study aims to find out the factors affecting the transition of rice farming to
sweet orange farming and to find out the difference of income between rice farming and
sweet orange farming in Wadio Village, West Nabire District, Nabire Regency. This is a
case study research conducted on sweet orange farming community which was previously
a rice farmer.
This study is designed based on the objectives to be achieved through the descriptive
analysis approach which is descriptively describe the transition of rice farming to sweet
orange farming and farmers’ income achieved from rice and sweet orange farming.
Research method used was a survey method, with 22 respondents of rice farmers and 19
respondents of sweet orange farmers as samples taken randomly. The data collected was
tabulated and analyzed to find out farmers’ income and the feasibility of both farming
then those types of farming were compared. Furthermore, Focus Group Discussion and
some information found during the research was conducted are used to describe factors
affecting the transition of rice farming to sweet orange farming.
The results show that factors such as education, farming experience, family size,
income, and socio-culture influence the transition of rice farming to sweet orange
farming. The income received by sweet orange farmers in a year on one hectare of land is
exceptionally profitable than the one received by rice farmers.
